PREMISE。
It happens swiftly and without warning.
Perhaps you’re stepping into the threshold of your home after a weary day of travel when it happens. Perhaps you’re walking into a heavily crowded street or by yourself on a splintered sidewalk, mindfully avoiding the cracks. Maybe you’ve stepped into another room, a hall, or past a swaying curtain. Perhaps you’re merely walking over a line drawn in sand.
Wherever you are hardly matters, because you’ve crossed a boundary. As you take that single step and feel your foot connect to the ground something gradually passes through you. Your surroundings transition into fluttering leaves whirling past you, towering pines and a greying sky overhead. The scent of cedar and rain overcome you as you realize you’re very suddenly not where you were a second ago. You are instead in a lush forest with nothing but your usual items on your person.
Above you the clouds linger close, murky and foreboding. You venture deeper into the woods, occasionally catching a hint of something in the corner of your eye, there one second and gone the next. You come across subtle signs of civilization – an abandoned wheelbarrow on the side of the beaten path, children’s sandals strewn across grass. As your instincts warn of something watching you from afar, you hear the slightest peal of a child’s laughter on the wind. Before you realize it you’ve come across a decrepit Japanese-style mansion, rotted with age and roof heavy with detritus. It does sound like someone is diligently sweeping nearby, though, and just as you round the corner to ask questions you find that the person sweeping–
– is a broom sweeping by itself, with a single eye blinking back at you. A red tongue lolls from its mouth.
“Oho! Looking for the entrance, are you?” It leers with a wide smile.
“Well, look no further! Kehaha! You’re already here!”
